Research
conducted by the National Institute of Mental Health
has shown that anxiety disorders are the number
one mental health problem among American Women
and are second only to alcohol and
drug abuse in men. Twenty to Thirty
million people have suffered panic attacks, phobias
or other anxiety disorders in the past year.
If you find yourself among this population, this
class is for you! Come and learn how to reduce
physiological reactivity, eliminate avoidance
behavior and change subjective interpretations (or
self talk) which perpetuate a state of apprehension
and worry.
Topics
that will be discussed in the class will be
relaxation, coping with panic, desensitization,
overcoming negative self-talk, assertiveness,
self-esteem, nutrition, breathing/relaxation,
cognitive restructuring, anxiety/worry management
skills, imagery desensitization and expressed feelings.
Participants will have the opportunity to experience
a meditation/relaxation session. In addition,
the causes of panic and anxiety will be
discussed. This class will aid you in
breaking out of the pattern of fear and anxiety that
may have imprisoned you for years!
